In Syangja, Biruwa Rural Municipality — a 3-day free eye screening and health education camp was successfully conducted under the coordination of BM Foundation and Biruwa Rural Municipality, with support from Garima Bikas Bank and TPB Foundation. The camp was organized across different wards where a total of 514 patients received eye examinations. In Ward No. 6, Biruwa Primary Hospital, Chinyebas, 220 patients were screened and 20 cataract cases were identified. Similarly, in Ward No. 4, Oraste, 170 patients were examined with 8 cataract cases detected, and in Ward No. 3, Khaligaun, among 124 patients, 12 were found to have cataracts. Altogether, 40 cataract patients were identified and referred for further treatment. In addition, free medicines and eyeglasses were distributed to needy patients to support immediate care and improve their vision. Along with screening, an eye health awareness program was also conducted, providing information on disease prevention, the importance of timely check-ups, and proper eye care practices. This program reflects the reality of rural community health, where access to specialized services is limited and many people live with untreated yet preventable conditions due to lack of awareness, distance, and financial constraints. Outreach programs such as this camp play a vital role in bridging the healthcare gap by bringing services directly to the community, increasing awareness, and promoting early diagnosis. The active participation and gratitude of local residents highlight both the need and impact of such initiatives, while the collaboration between local government and supporting organizations demonstrates an effective model for improving rural healthcare delivery.
