Free Eye Health Camp
A comprehensive Eye Health Education and Eye Camp event was successfully organized at Jhor Mahankal Secondary School, Tokha Municipality, Kathmandu. This initiative, aimed at promoting eye health awareness and providing essential eye care, was attended by over 150 students and teachers for the educational session and 229 participants for the eye camp.
Students learned practical ways to maintain healthy vision, such as reducing screen time, eating nutritious food, and ensuring proper lighting during activities. Participants expressed gratitude, with Grade 10 student Ashmi Tamang stating, "I’ve learned the importance of regular eye check-ups and simple habits to protect my eyes."
The eye camp provided detailed screenings, diagnosing conditions like ocular allergies, refractive errors, asthenopia, conjunctivitis, and strabismus. The outcomes were as follows:
Referral Cases:
Several individuals, including 17-year-old Sujan Tamang and 15-year-old Urmila Bogati, were referred to specialists for further treatment of issues such as refractive errors and strabismus.
Organizers faced hurdles, including rainy weather, slippery roads, and limited educational materials. Despite these difficulties, the collaboration of Kantipur Dental College Teaching Hospital, KDC Eye Care Center, BM Foundation, and Taiwan Prevent Blindness ensured the event's success.
